Excerpt from "Strategies for a Dissenting Scientist" by Brian Martin

Those who challenge conventional views or vested interests in science are likely to encounter difficulties. A scientific dissenter should first of all realize that science is a system of power as well as knowledge, in which interest groups play a key role and insiders have an extra advantage. Dissenters are likely to be ignored or dismissed. If they gain some recognition or outside support, they may be attacked. In the face of such obstacles, there are several strategies, including mimicking science, aiming at lower status outlets, enlisting patrons, seeking a different audience, exposing suppression of dissent, and building a social movement. How many times have you visited a science based forum of one sort or another? Did you feel like the writers were professional in their presentation of material while using cute little user-names? Did you see how new ideas were relegated to the section reserved for what the referees considered junk, trash, or crazy? Were the personal attacks and name calling something that you wanted to read? And, most importantly, are you an academic, professional, researcher, or anyone else with a idea that needs a place to be seriously disseminated to the masses?

Here, at Science Doubts, you will find informative articles on a wide range of scientific topics written by individuals who think outside of the box. Questions that need answers that make sense are addressed without limitations imposed by some "so called" expert with a cute user-name acting as a referee. No discipline is off-limits. The anomalies, strange phenomena, unusual findings, and the like are explored with vigor and respect. The only action imposed by Science Doubts' editor will be to protect the writer. Personal attacks will be deposited in the appropriate circular file.

While writing for Science Doubts, you will be afforded the opportunity to protect your identification. A system for writing under a pseudonym is in place that you maintain control over. You can express you ideas, doubts, and findings without risk to your professional reputation, funding, position, or privacy and remain open to review that you are able to participate in.

The best reason to use Science Doubts is the ability to reference its article amongst your peers without fear that they will find out that you are someone that doubts the dogma. By using a professional sounding pseudonym your articles can actually be published in written form and presented as you see fit. The possibilities for disseminating your thoughts and/or findings are endless.

The last item that should convince you to write on Science Doubts is: Should you ideas, thoughts, and/or findings gain acceptance within the scientific community; you will be able to show ownership of the copyright and prove that you are the "New" Einstein. A nice thing should the Noble Prize Committee or Funding Manager become interested in your work.

Those wishing to offer counter-points will be asked to join the Guest Writers list and then their article will be reviewed for possible inclusion. Those individuals who write arguments that spout the normal dogma without seriously considering the original thesis will be returned for reexamination.

Please read the following to see how it works and to what levels Science Doubt will go to protect you the writer.
